Over the past weeks (if you follow me on Snapchat @doitonadime or watched my family vlog) you’ve seen us share about our butterfly garden and what a beautiful learning tool it has been for Carson.
So many of you have sent me snaps and messages asking where I got the kit and if I would recommend it. Wholeheartedly YES! It makes a great birthday present on a budget (just $18) and is a perfect teaching tool for kids of any age.
You buy the full kit that comes with a butterfly tent, a feeding tube, and instructions for hatching butterflies from caterpillars. The caterpillars are free and you just pay $5 do have them shipped to your door.
Ours arrived in a couple of days with all the food they need to survive until they turn into a chrysalis. Then, transfer your chrysalis to the butterfly garden, wait for them to hatch, feed them fruit and flowers, and finally release them.
The entire process takes about 3 weeks. If it’s 55 degrees or warmer in your area for the foreseeable future, this would be a great adventure to start with your kids!
A few tips we learned along the way:
Here are more ways you can create a learning experience with your butterflies.

Today I share a day with a newborn baby (three weeks old) and my three year old toddler. Life is full and we are so, so blessed. Sometimes I look around at all the Lord has provided us with and I could just burst. Here’s a typical day with my two boys. Hope you enjoy! It means to world to me that you are sharing this journey with our family. This video is in loving memory of Courtney.

Welcome, Owen Charles! This is our labor and delivery story of baby number two. It was an induction at almost 42 weeks due to low amniotic fluid, and just 8 short hours later, I had a beautiful baby boy in my arms. Birth is heroic, no matter how it happens, so I hope this video empowers and encourages someone. We feel so grateful and blessed. God is so good!

As a second time mom, you actually know what you need to pack for the hospital because you’ve been there, done that. Here’s my real-deal version of how to pack your hospital bag. And I even poke a little fun at my old video. Enjoy!

It’s another DITL VLOG! Hang out with us, garden, grocery shop (with a little grocery haul), see what I eat in a day, and make a fly by the seat of your pants dinner (where I break all the rules…like always haha!). Carson also has some things he would like to show you. I also explain why perfect kitchens are over-rated. Family first!

Is my second trimester already over? With the second baby, things seem a whole lot different this go around. In this video I cover my labor fears, struggles and joys of those middle months, and my maternity photo shoot (outside of my comfort zone but so glad I did it!) Also, a little cameo from Carson!
If you are in the Charlotte, NC area, you can see more work from my photographer (and good friend) here. She’s awesome!

Come spend the afternoon with us in this casual video and learn our favorite recipe for making slime with your kiddos (see below). We head to the store and chat about great buys at Target and the Dollar Tree. And new mascara. You know, all the fun, girly things.
***Recipe for SLIME!***
1 cup white glue
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup hot water
1.5 to 2 Tablespoons Borax (found in the laundry aisle)
Food coloring (about 5 or 6 drops of green gives you the pretty turquoise color!)
Mix the water and food coloring. Pour over glue in a bowl. Stir. Add hot water and Borax. Stir and knead until it becomes slime. This will take about 10 minutes (or at least it did for us). It keeps absorbing more and more water until it is one mass!

Come hang out with us! You asked, so here’s another Day In The Life vlog! This was filmed on President’s Day (2.15.16). Come along with us as we make our own fun during an “ice storm”, do chores, and oh yeah… stuff goes wrong at my house, too. Love you guys! Did you have the day off? What did you do with your family?
