This very interesting video. Carson is growing to be a boy with so much happy moments of his childhood. Thank you for sharing. What a happy family you have. ????????????
in the 70’s I moved to TN found pbs channel with 4 ft gardener. although the ingredients were different (we broke down the clay soil then added composite and manure) this automatically allowed the soil to double the amt and had perfect drainage. since rototiller makes clay hard pack floor we had to remove all our new soil and use a 4 prong to break hard pack up and put down black plastic sheet covering bottom, sides and at least a foot around surface, then we had to stab holes in floor for drainage. built 4×4 raised untreated 1×6 boards. tired yet? return new soil to box, it would sink down when watered which we did and covered with newspaper for 2 wks so weeds in soil would grow and die. having started the first warm day this process took a month before we could plant. Exhausted much? 24 beds later, 2 ft paths between with the black sheets overlapping from raised beds w holes for drainage, covered in newspaper and straw to control weeds and safe walking and we planted for the summer season. anything that ran on the ground went on 8 ft fencing held up by metal poles, wrapped around entire bed and tied off. watermelon, squash, etc blossomed and old pantyhose hammocks were tied under blossom according to size of produce. green beans were run up wire. fencing tied in circular cages placed over every type of tomato for support and easy to reach in and pick, bought one of each kind and then when we picked off suckers we again planted wrapping with 2 in wide newspaper below and above ground to prevent cut worms. We rotated the garden according to the season. we had leaf lettuce that regrows after cutting what you need. The second year we shared w neighbors. 3rd yr neighbors were making requests for planting and donating money for plants. 20 yrs later we had 7 flavors of mint in plastic pots (to keep contained) and the chocolate was my favorite. The front yard was the same except it was flowers of all sorts in 10 beds, no grass to mow, trellised and bamboo staked for support (6 ft hollyhocks need support). We divided the irises while still in the ground and sold to anyone who stopped, Dutch gardens sold scores of cheap to expensive types, one was $20, all paid or by the proceeds of sales. We used landscaping between beds in front yard. when we moved to another state the buyer didn’t want to garden so the neighbors offered to help removed beds, plants, and even the enriched soil as the landscaper said their special grass wouldn’t do well as it was different quality soil in various areas. A decade later visited and the neighbors had no grass and had learned to grow and rotate for each other so that no money changed hands just produce and flowers and mint. They all had the 20×4 ft trenches dug out for 5 different potatoes to grow and I came home with a car load of veggies and such. I miss the land but am too old to work land or upkeep house so I have an apt with a balcony and big pots with fencing for veggies and small pots for flowers and one chair and small table just for me alone. the pots are on plastic squares raised on bricks so drainage doesn’t bother anyone. I add vinegar to the drainage pan so mosquitoes don’t stay around. I raise only for my needs, rotate for each season, one plant each and still have 12 pots that fit on balcony. I don’t buy veggies, etc, I buy plants. I trade off with my downstairs neighbor who I taught to garden the 4×4 way in pots and she has “borrowed” outside her patio for additional pots. I wish you and yours joy, health and the best gardens ever.
When I move into a house somebody maybe I’ll think about doing this. It seems exciting!
Thanks for sharing these tips, I also enjoy growing my own fruits and vegetables.
