:45 second breakfast ideas!

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: Money Saving, Recipes

*Thanks to Jimmy Dean for sponsoring this segment of Cooking with Carson!  All opinions are genuinely our own…including Carson’s commentary ;)*

Getting breakfast ready in the morning can be stressful.  Especially if you are constantly running late like me!  Ha!  Here are some :45 second breakfast ideas that are easy to have on hand to keep busy mornings simple.

**Want more easy breakfast ideas?  Check out Jimmy Dean Breakfast on YouTube!

**Also, don’t forget to download your $1 off Jimmy Dean Fully Cooked Sausage coupon!

****SAUSAGE AND PITA SANDWICH****

  • Jimmy Dean Fully Cooked Sausage
  • Round Wheat Pita
  • 2 slices of Gouda cheese
  • 3-4 sliced grape tomatoes

Cook sausage for :45 seconds (it’s really that fast because it’s fully cooked!)  Add your pita, cheese, and grape tomatoes and you’ve got an instant on-the-go breakfast!

MONEY-SAVING BONUS TIPS:

  • Download a $1 off Jimmy Dean Fully Cooked Sausage coupon (hurry offer ends soon!)
  • Gouda and Edam cheese both have similar flavors.  Sausage pairs well with stronger, buttery or nutty textures.  Cheese not on sale?  Look for other similar cheeses on sale like Baby Swiss or Havarti.  If you have a really picky eater, Munster is also a great option.  Most grocery stores rotate significant, rotating markdowns in the deli aisle.

****READY-GO SMOOTHIE****

  • 2 bananas
  • 1/2 a container of spinach
  • 2-3 small cartons of berries or frozen berries
  • frozen mangos

Add ingredients to individual baggies and freeze for up to 3 months.  Keep in a tupperware to prevent freezer burn.  Add a cup or so of juice to the frozen packs in a blender and you have a smoothie that is ready to eat in seconds.

MONEY-SAVING BONUS TIP:  Frozen and Fresh berries usually pack an equal amount of nutrients so when in season, buy fresh, and when out of season, buy frozen.  You’ll get the biggest bang for your buck.  Want organic?  Frozen is almost always the way to go!

****FRUIT AND YOGURT ROLL-UPS****

  • 8 flour tortillas
  • 2 small cartons of berries
  • Greek Yogurt (2 containers)
  • 1/2 Cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • spray butter

Add a frosting layer of Greek yogurt to a tortilla.  Top with berries and roll like a burrito.  Spray with spray butter and run through combined sugar and cinnamon on a plate.  Flash freeze for 2 hours then cut in half and put in individual Ziplock backs in a tupperware in the freezer.  Let thaw a few minutes before eating and enjoy!

MONEY-SAVING BONUS TIP: Look for cash back on fresh food, yogurt, tortillas and more from mobile coupon apps like Ibotta (the app is completely FREE).

****INSTANT SAUSAGE AND EGG****

  • 1 egg
  • Jimmy Dean’s Fully Cooked Turkey Sausage
  • Cheese as desired

Whisk egg and cheese in a small mug.  Add sausage to the mug and microwave for :45 seconds to 1 minute 10 seconds.  Turn mug over and serve on a plate with your favorite fruit!

****READY-GO INSTANT OATMEAL****

  • Instant oatmeal
  • Powdered coffee creamer
  • Brown sugar

Add a serving of oatmeal to a snack-size ziplock baggie.  Add 1 tsp. of Brown Sugar and 1 tsp. Coffee creamer to each baggie for sweetness and smoothness.

Simple Toddler Chores & Responsibility

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: Advice & Vlogs, Online Deals, Teaching

Here is the simple way we encourage Carson to be a helper in our home.  His responsibilities are simple and manageable.  Chore systems are also for the parents (ME!) to keep you intentional about having your kids contribute.  It’s often far easier to just “do it yourself” but we are in the business of teaching life-skills, right?   Chore/Responsibility charts are a great place to start and be intentional with your kids!

Cheap Chalkboard Labels! (65% off!)

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: Online Deals, Organization

Just a quick public service announcement on getting CHEAP chalkboard labels.  I’ve gotten lots of comments and messages from you asking why their Dollar Tree didn’t carry chalkboard labels and how I found mine.

Good news, friends!  These chalkboard labels are under $6.95 for 48.  That’s 65% off (down from $19.95)  You read that right.  To get the same amount of labels at the dollar tree you would have to spend over $8 (and they quality is not nearly as good..they struggle to stick to plastic).  These Superchalks are amazing with 5 star reviews.

Need a chalk pen?  There is also a bundle for a couple more bucks that includes a pen.  Also a great deal.

So all you organizing freaks, here you go.  These make a great stocking stuffer, too.  (Full disclosure: I sent these to Charlie and said, “Santa wants me to tell you I want this.  I’m such a weirdo.)  HA!

11 Tips to an Organized Christmas

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: Holiday, Organization

We aren’t perfect.  And our holiday isn’t effortless.  But here are a few things I do to make the process a little easier!

Christmas Gift ListQUICK AND SIMPLE TIPS

  1.  Have a Gift List to keep track of everything you spend and buy.  This keeps you organized and on budget.  Download my Christmas Gift List!
  2. Keep your receipts with your list.  I find it easiest to attach a manila envelope or pocket to my gift list.
  3. Use printable address labels to make sending holiday cards a breeze.  I have a template I update from year to year.  I love using clear address labels so pretty envelopes aren’t hidden.
  4.  Create a wrapping station in your home (it doesn’t have to be fancy) so everything is at ready-access.  Don’t forget scissors, tape and a pen!
  5. Have pull bins in closets that corral different types of trimmings.  It makes access really easy and putting everything away faster than ever.
  6. Creative wrapping paper storage.  Clear garment bags work great and so do big laundry baskets.
  7. Store wrapped gifts in a laundry basket (it makes it easy to transport on Christmas morning)
  8. Create a “Santa’s Workshop” by covering your work station with a blanket.  This has always worked for us!
  9. Organize stocking stuffers in mini caddys or dollar tree bins.  You can see what you have for everyone and keep shopping sales.
  10. Wrap in mini-bursts.  I usually do about 10 minutes per night leading up until Christmas, so I’m not stressed the days before the 25th.
  11. Create a favorites album of highlights on your phone and only import those pictures to an online recourse (like Shutterfly or Walmart) to print your yearly family album.  This is when we start getting ours ready!

I hope you enjoyed these quick tips!

DIY Velveeta Cheese and Holiday Hanky Pankies

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: Recipes

In this Cooking with Carson segment, I’ll be sharing quick way to make your own Velveeta cheese and an easy holiday (hearty!) appetizer.

I stumbled upon this Velveeta Cheese dupe from MOMables.  We’ve used it for almost a year, and it holds up great in any Velveeta cheese recipe where you need a substitute!

One of our favorite Appetizers is HANKY PANKIES!  These are a family secret, and while they aren’t lookers (you won’t win any awards there), these are amazing on the taste buds.

Giving back with your kids! {Operation Christmas Child}

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: DIY Projects, Dollar Tree, Holiday

If you are looking for a tangible way to give back this holiday season, one of our favorite charity events is Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse.

Samaritan’s Purse is a wonderful non-profit I have enjoyed working with over the years.  Create shoeboxes filled with school supplies, personal hygiene items, and toys to send to a child in need overseas.  The best part of all is this kids will experience God’s love first-hand in a discipleship class and your give will have eternal impact.

See how Carson and I packed boxes this year, and I hope you decide to join us!

**US collection is Nov. 16- Nov. 23 of 2015.  Find your local dropoff!**

Connect to your child by sending information from your kids and family in this free printable!
