Dollar Tree Fall shop with me (DIY included!)

by doitonadime Filed Under: Decor & Furniture, DIY Projects, Dollar Tree, Holiday

Hey Do It On A Dimers! In this shopping vlog, come shop with me at Dollar Tree! If you want to find the best new fall finds (before everything sells out for 2017) you’ve got to go EARLY. Probably when you are still wearing your summer clothes. In this store tour, come with Carson and I, and we’ll show you fall flowers, signs, pumpkins, ribbon, Halloween decor, new candles, quick tips, and two easy Farmhouse decor DIYs. I decorated two spaces in my home at the end of this vlog. I’m totally jumping on the Magnolia, Fixer Upper, Chip and Joanna bandwagon. Like the rest of the world. And I’m SURE I’m not doing it “right” I’m just doing what I love and telling our story. I love the rustic bucket I created with some simple chalk paint and a Dollar Tree organizing bin. It’s only August, but I’m ready for fall and all things pumpkin spice! I hope you enjoy!

by doitonadime Filed Under: Advice & Vlogs, Holiday

Welcome to part 2 of our vacation vlog to Michigan! We celebrated Christmas in July at the lake house my in-laws rented. Come see the festivities! Boating, swimming, playing, and getting squirted in the face by a toilet (literally!). It wasn’t all roses (Owen got pretty sick) but we had an amazing adventure we won’t soon forget.

Here’s the toilet game ?

Cook with Carson Valentine’s Cookies (Grandma’s Recipe!)

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: Holiday, Recipes

In this episode of #cookingwithcarson, Carson makes Valentine’s day cookies using his great grandmother’s beloved recipe..including the amazing frosting (just three ingredients!)

?GREAT GRANDMA’S VALENTINE’S COOKIE RECIPE:
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
3/4 cup margarine
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla

Beat ingredients and stir in flour gradually.  Chill dough covered in the fridge for 20 minutes and cool to touch.  Roll onto a lightly floured surface to desired thickness and cut into shapes.  Bake at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes for standard cookies.  Our silicon baking mat (these are bomb!)

?BEST HOME-MADE FROSTING RECIPE:
About 1 cup of powdered sugar
2 tablespoons butter
Splash of milk
(Food coloring optional)

Add melted butter and milk to powdered sugar.  Stir to combine until forms a slightly runny glaze.  Keep adding powdered sugar to reach your desired thickness.  Stir in food coloring (we used 13 drops red to achieve the pink color).

Store cookies refrigerated in a single layer with wax paper between to protect sprinkles and decorations.  We love them decorated with cinnamon candies!

Organize your guest room!

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: Holiday, Organization

With Christmas coming this week, I wanted to share my favorite tips for preparing a guest room on a budget.  These are quick tips (all take minutes or seconds to prepare) with big impact.  Enjoy time with your family!

PRODUCTS MENTIONED:
Mattress Topper (very good deal right now!)
Luggage rack
Our new headboard

RECIPE FOR MUSTY TOWELS:
Sprinkle 1/3 cup of baking soda into drum/on towels
Add 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar to fabric softener well (or during the rinse cycle if an older machine)
Wash on hot
The vinegar acts as a softener and the baking soda neutralizes odors.  It seems counterproductive, but many times towels smell because of soap build up in them.  You will LOVE how neutral they smell after this treatment.  Add essential oil to the load if you wish.
