CLEANING MY HOUSE! Fast & Organized Weekly Cleaning Routine

by doitonadime Filed Under: Cleaning, DIY Projects, Dollar Tree, Organization, Recipes

Clean with me! Some much needed cleaning motivation (on a budget of course). After lots of requests, I FINALLY made a video of my weekly whole house cleaning routine. I have daily cleaning routines that keep me organized and on top of the house (these take about 20-30 minutes a day), and my weekly cleaning routines (which incorporate monthly ones one or twice throughout the week) take 20-30 minutes a day. I want to spend LESS THAN AN HOUR A DAY staying on top of my house. And even then, we have young kids, so spotless floors aren’t my number one priority. Of course, you’re gonna need some basic housework equipment for your cleaning responsibilities, so you might be required to have a look on somewhere like Bissell if you’re short of things like vacuum cleaners.

I aim to get 80% of what I’m showing here done 80% of the time. I hope you find it motivating, helpful and learned some hacks and tips you can use in your home! If you want me to make a video of my daily and monthly/bi-monthly/yearly cleaning routines, let me know in the comments. Blessings and love! Remember, give yourself grace and love the season of life you are in (especially with little ones). Your kids are making memories.

Once a month, I’ll utilise a housekeeping service to come in and absolutely deep clean the whole house. I’ll take the kids out and let them clean everything. That way, I can stay on top of the maintenance, and let another company handle the deep cleaning (the hard work part). My friend had her restaurant commercially cleaned by GREEN FACILITIES and it looked amazing. There’s nothing better than a clean environment.

DIY Farmhouse Table | best way to chalk paint furniture

by doitonadime Filed Under: Decor & Furniture, DIY Projects, Money Saving

Hey, guys! In this video I share the basics of how to chalk paint furniture in a rustic, farmhouse style. This gives you the perfect opportunity to thrift furniture with solid bones and make is fit the esthetic of your home. I LOVE the show fixer upper with Chip and Joanna Gaines and have been really gravitating toward farmhouse and distressed home decor. Whether you are painting a dresser, coffee table, chairs, stools, cabinets and more–this is SUCH an easy project. If you haven’t worked with chalk paint before, here is exactly how to apply chalk paint with an easy to follow tutorial. My favorite part? You can do it in ONE day and NO sanding required. Even on previously stained or finished wood. I hope you enjoy!

SUPPLIES IN THIS VIDEO:
Chalk Paint: I used Valspar color “Kid Gloves” from Lowes. You can also use Annie Sloan and Plaid in the colors of your choice. All great! Here’s the Parisian Grey color
Chalk Paint Brushes
Sand Paper
Water-Based Polyurethane Finish (also know as polycrylic)

Note: you’ll notice the Poly linked above is not the can you see in the video, it’s only because I was using up what I already had from another project but it’s the same thing–Rust-o-leum’s Varnathane. It’s the finish you want with chalk paint! Especially if your piece is ivory or white, it won’t yellow. Amazing staying power on high traffic pieces!

2017 Solar Eclipse for Kids!

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: Advice & Vlogs, DIY Projects

Living in North Carolina, everyone is in Great American Eclipse Hype!  What an amazing learning opportunity for kids!

The path of totality (a total solar eclipse) will cross 14 U.S. states: Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.  According to NASA, that means 300 million people in the country could directly view the total solar eclipse on Aug. 21.  At least a partial solar eclipse will be visible world-wide.

We ordered some cheapy solar eclipse glasses online  to safely view the eclipse since our city will have 98% totality.  Our library was actually giving them away for free but they ran out very quickly.  This is by far the BEST way to view the eclipse!

BEFORE- Just solar glasses

Carson is SO excited for the big day, but the glasses don’t stay on his face well, and viewing the eclipse is very dangerous without glasses, especially for preschoolers.  Rather than chance them slipping off his face, I made them easier to hold by cutting slits for the glasses, a hole for the lenses, and a triangle for his nose and mouth into a paper plate.  I don’t have to worry about a slip of the hand or glasses resulting in damaging his eyes.  This is a great trick to try with kids, I saw in a mommy Facebook group that a teacher at Mount Carmel School in Newport News, VA is using with her students.  Awesome.  I hope this will help those of you watching the eclipse with your littles.

Looking for some fun activities to do with your kids?  You can download free printables here!

You also cut a small hole in paper to watch the eclipse happen on the ground.  Easy and free.  You can see more info here!
