Classroom Organization Ideas!

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: Money Saving, Organization, Teaching

I’ve been a teacher for 8 years.  Sometimes it’s hard to wrap my brain around that…or maybe I just want to feel younger than I am.  HA!  I am so, so blessed <3 I know the Lord placed this calling on my life, and I am so fortunate to work alongside some pretty incredible people and kiddos.  THANK YOU, TEACHERS for all you do! 🙂  Public school, private school, homeschool mommas.  We need strong people like you to lift up our communities.  You inspire the future.

Here are a few quick tips of ways I love to organize my classroom…some of these ideas you can even use in your house, too!

P.S. Only a squillion of you have asked to see my classroom at school.  I actually don’t have my own room, I teach off of a cart and float around the building (yay Spanish class!), but I did have my own room for 6+ years.  So I know these tips can hack it in a room full of energetic kiddos 😉

DIY Edible PlayDoh! | Easy no-cook recipe for fall!

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: Recipes, Teaching

My friend Jessica sent me this recipe, and I wanted to share it with you.  It’s fun and easy and perfect for fall!  I hope you enjoy and please post pictures on my facebook if you try it 🙂

Edible Pumpkin Playdough

1 cup canned pumpkin

2 oz. honey

2 cups flour (I used more like 3-4)

1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

orange food coloring (optional)

Mix together pumpkin puree and honey.  Add flour, powdered milk, and spice.  Knead together until well combined.

STORE IN FRIDGE FOR 2-3 HOURS BEFORE USE.  This will make it PERFECT consistency.

Store in a gallon ziplock bag in the fridge for a week or two 🙂

DIY Lamination at Home!

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: DIY Projects, Online Deals, Organization, Teaching

I LOVE lamination.  As a teacher I consider myself to be more or less an “expert” at it.  I have laminated so much in my day and had to be creative about it.  I’ve been teaching for 8 years, so that’s a lotta paper!

My favorite Laminating ideas are in the video below, and here is more information about the products I show.  There is no paid product placement in this video 🙂  I’m not trying to promote and one brand… just show you what’s available!  I am an Amazon affiliate.

Dollar Tree Tape!

Self-Adhesive Laminating Sheets (it’s cheaper to get them online than in-store!)

Thermal Laminating Pouches. These are the ones I featured.

My laminator

Walmart Laminator (haven’t tried but good reviews!)

Another option to get the pouches is laminator.com (I’m not affiliated but the prices are good!)

$1 HOLIDAY GIFT IDEAS | 2014

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: DIY Projects, Holiday, Money Saving

Annie’s Simple Life invited me to participate in this collab video to share some easy holiday gift ideas that don’t break the bank.  How nerdy is it that I get giddy when I see these types of videos pop up in my subscription feed?  They never get old!

***DOWNLOAD FREE GIFT TAG TEMPLATES HERE!***

One element that always guides my gift-crafting is: would I like to receive this gift?  Sometimes “cheap” has the assumption of “tacky.”  These are two gifts that we love and use at home, and they are extremely budget-conscious.  Enjoy!

Small ways to eat healthier and save money: BREAD MACHINE TUTORIAL

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: DIY Projects, Money Saving, Online Deals, Recipes

It’s fall, so a bread-themed post is more than appropriate and probably long overdue.

I’ve wanted to share a bit about our breadmaker.  I’ve talked about it in passing in numerous vlogs, and I’ve had a fair number of comments asking to hear more about our Sunbeam.  I’ve had it on my list to make a video about for a while: how it saves us money, why it’s healthier how we store it, how we keep our bread fresh after it is made, etc… why in the name of bacon would I store such a GIANT thing in my kitchen!?!?

So cheers to carbs and how to make your bread-maker count!

Let me know your 2 cents.  Do you have a bread machine?  Do you use it?  I would love to know your favorite recipes if you do!

HOW TO ACTUALLY STAY ORGANIZED!

by doitonadimeblog Filed Under: Organization

I get many messages from you asking for help getting organized.  A common theme is “I can organize things, but it never stays that way.  I think I’m just destined to live with clutter.”

I wanted to address this question simple give you some tips that really help me.  From a  working mom in a REAL house.

Here is how to ACTUALLY STAY organized….

1) DON’T BE DISCOURAGED:  High-traffic zones are hard to keep organized…they are for me, too!

2) TAKE INVENTORY:  Keep in a space only what  you actually use.  Not back-ups.  Not extras.  Only the stuff you use.  Quit the ifs ands and buts.

3) YOU DON’T JUST NEED “ANOTHER BIN”:  Most spaces don’t need new things to make them function.  Save $$, yo!

4) USE THE 20% RULE: Leave 20% minimum of free, empty space in any organized space…you need room to grow!

5) HALFWAY-HOME:  Put “extras” you are purging in a box for a few months to see if you really need to keep it.  Never go in it?  Get rid of it!

6) FORGET PERFECT.  I’m serious.  Your house will NEVER look like a blog.  Like ever.  And if it does you will be sad because you will have no life.  Just aim for efficient 🙂

SEE IT IN ACTION!
