In this video I share tips for cleaning & organizing routine after the holidays to get the house back to refreshed and ready for the new year. I share how to organize and store ornaments, Christmas lights, how we keep our decor in check, and how I clean up (including all the GLITTER ha!) When you do put away your holiday decor? I’m all about getting it done before the new year. Have any tips to share? I would love to hear them!

House is back to normal by January 6 – Feast of the Epiphany.
I remember celebrating that in Spain. So much fun. Enjoy!!
Love the tree decorations hack! Will definitely use. I start taking decorations down on New Year’s Day.
I too wait until Epiphany or the 12th day of Christmas. I love Christmas decorations and hate to see them go. The morning of the 7th everything is taken down.
I love Christmas time and the lights and peaceful music. I rush around so much before Christmas, that I use the time after Christmas to relax and enjoy. Also, I live in northern Minnesota where it is really cold and dark. I used to get depressed after Christmas after everything was put away. Now I keep it up until roughly the 3rd weekend in January. I’m finally ready, plus the tree is starting to dry (maybe if it weren’t for that things would be up longer). However, I leave strings of white lights up year round…..they are on timers……and that helps s lot.
Enjoy it, Sandra!
We put our Christmas decorations away on New Years Eve Day. There has been a historical, long standing belief in our family that “The condition your home is in at the stroke of midnight, is the condition it will be all year long”.
Every yeary, my grand parent and parents organized and cleaned the house and even cleaned the floors as they left the house just before midnight. They wouldn’t return until the new year. And yes, their homes were always immaculate.
The years I have done this, my home has remained clean throughout the year.
I’ve been watching your videos for a little over a year . They are great! Because they are short on words, quick shots & you talk fast & get to the point, I subscribe AND look forward to them. I’m retired, live alone now & I STILL use your ideas! Have my homemade Keurig oatmeal several times a week! You’re an inspiration, K?
Yay! I’m so glad you are loving the oatmeal Dee 🙂
The 12 days of Christmas are from 25th Dec to 5th Jan inclusive. So decs go up on 24th and are taken down on 6th, it’s considered to be unlucky to leave them up after 6th. This is how we did it as kids and how I did it with my children.
Our house is back to normal the weekend after New year’s eve! I’ve got a week! ?
So excited to make some simple systems in my kitchen pantry and coat closet. Love the valuable real estate tip! I think that’s why my systems keep failing! Thanks for the giveaway
Thank you for your video. So helpful! My mom taught me that the 12 Days of Christmas doesn’t actually begin until Christmas Day, so I don’t take anything down until January 6th. ??
on or after January 6
When you pack your Christmas decoration, add a note about your plans, desires, wishes, resolutions, etc. for the coming year. Ask each family member to give you their list, and place all in a sealed envelope with your decorations. Then when you unpack them in a year, pick a family time to open the envelope and read the contents. You will probably forget what you listed and it will be fun to see how many goals you reached. Fun!
Love this!
January 6th is our target date. Feast of the Epiphany. This is how my mother did it and her mother before her. I don’t like to rush the season to an end.
I’m with you on that. My daughters tree and decs are away by 28th and that’s Christmas finished!! Hate that.
I love to extend Christmas as long as possible, but my family likes to celebrate Epiphany and take everything down then. I also look at everything and get rid of items that we haven’t used in a couple of years to keep down the amount of stuff. Your idea of limited totes is a great one. And perhaps trading out items if I find a new one that I like. Then an old one needs to go. Sometimes it’s just taking a few minutes to go through things that saves tons of time and space in the long run. Thanks for all that you share!
