When I was in California for VidCon and to visit family, I was eagerly anticipating dropping by Diaso– the largest Japanese Dollar Store. It’s a colorful and cheerful budget-friendly haven with a massive (and I do mean MASSIVE) selection of food, housewares, organizers, office supplies, crafting supplies, and more. To add the icing on the cake, everything in the store is just $1.50 (unless otherwise marked). Talk about complete marketing brilliance! Sold! Get me another suitcase!
After hearing from so many of you and I would be head over heels in love with this place, I took some of my vacation time to tour it. And because I’m crazy and love this sort of thing, it was a definite highlight of my time in Cali. I visited with my Aunt Karen, and she loved it just as much as I did. I feel like there were so many items I didn’t get the chance to film, but there were lots of highlights (namely the incredible organizing sections) that made this trip warrant at 8 minute + video. Hold on to your hats and don’t look away…or you might miss something. 😉
If you are looking for a Daiso near you, you can check out their website. They have locations in California, Washington, (and recently, Texas) in the US. But they are also in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and lots of other countries as well.
I’m definitely team “bring Diaso to the East Coast.” Who’s with me?

Hi, Kathryn, I followed your youtube channel from your very beginning and always love it. Your video is very useful and friendly, I literally check the new episode every single day…even though I know you normally upload it every 2-3 days.( See, I really know it.) I bought a lot of organization tools from your recommendation and even want to give a try to Crystal Wash. Please keep going, I will always support you: )
Hi Kathryn, This store was amazing! Not only did they have such wonderful things to choose from but it was so bright and colorful! I thought you restrained yourself very well, it must have been hard!
Enjoy your week! – Mickey
I live at dollar stores. My daughter, while living in Japan, sent us and brought back to us many items she found at the 1Yen Stores. I still have the needle threader and the cup holder for the car. The cup holder, I’ve had for 10 years and although plastic, it is still going strong. It clips to you car vent and keeps our colas cold while driving with the airconditioner on. I never used it for coffee cups, though it said you could. The only reason I am not using it at this time is due to our new car vents totally not the same. But, I will figure out how to do it.
I hope more of these stores come to Ohio (Central Ohio). We have a huge Japanese and Korean population due to the car manufacurers in our area. Thank you for sharing this store with us! I plan on writing to the company and put us on their possible build site map
