I Tried “Swedish Death Cleaning” (and it worked!)

by doitonadime Filed Under: Cleaning, Organization

Hey, guys! In today’s video, I took a big step and helped Charlie tackle his closet. I cleaned and organized the space (not something high on his priority list), and I uncovered lots of things that I just failed to deal with for years. I’ve been reading a lot about Swedish Death Cleaning and many of the goals really resonated with me, and I hope they help you think about decluttering in a new way. Enjoy!

Thank you for your thoughtful videos. I just recently found you and have been catching up.
I appreciate your insights into organizing.
My husband passed away several years ago and I ended up homeless. But now that I am starting over I find myself needing very little but sometimes I purchase things that I don’t really have a use for. You are helping me realize that these things will not make me happy and I need to trust in God for my needs.
    Thank you

OMG! I’ve done this and thought to myself, “Am I being mean or insensitive to people who have given me stuff?” Then I thought, well this has been in this close for how long? Nobody asks or cares so goodbye! What a great feeling of relief. Thank you for sharing, including the emotions. Those are real and we ALL go through that.

After cleaning out my friend’s cluttered home who was just placed in a nursing home, I was glad I had began decluttering a few years ago. My goal is to be a minimalist. My mantra is less is more. One enjoys so much more in life by having less. It relieves the stress. . Thank you. I am going to get rid of some more items right now.

I’m packing to move up to Maine from Kansas. I have lots of my late husband’s stuff. I’m try to be mindful while I get rid of stuff. I find myself feel good about decluttering instead of guilty. Is that normal?

This video might be a good one to watch…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XNbAbhQZFA You can be thankful for the memories, you can offer up special items to family if you think it is something important to them, and you can remind yourself that your late husband wouldn’t want you to be burdened by a bunch of stuff you no longer need. I’m thinking of you today!
